Our Fashion Statement
Yesterday we had a great day at MOT, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo at Kiyosumi Shirakawa. The current exhibition Future Beauty: 30 Year of Japanese Fashion made my heart JUMP! Those garments of Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo and Issey Miyake made me come to Japan as a student in 2001 and come-back as a graduated designer in 2002. The exhibition is seperated in
“Praise of Shadows” with all black pieces that made Japanese Fashion famous in the early 80ies,
” Flatness” with the famous T-shirt dresses of Mintdesign and the picture frame dresses of Shinichiro Arakawa,
“Tradition and Innovation” with Comme des Garcons’ deconstructionist designs and Lady Gaga’s bodysuit (made by Somarta) and
“Virtuality and Reality” showing various streams of today’s fashion, created by moods, sub-cultures and pure fashion feelings of everyday’s life.
Maybe I have done a lot of fashion statements in my life… our statement yesterday came close to a piece of deconstructionist work: our overloaded baby car! (Look at the elegant little foot, hanging out relaxed)
